Our mind's and body's are interconnected and constantly informing each other about Homeo-Stasis. Homeo-Stasis is what the body strives for and seeks to ensure for us - it seeks for us to be in balance and assists us in doing so. If we are in tune with it, it will speak to us subtly and knowingly, we pay attention, listen and make changes affectively and swiftly. If we have fallen out of tune with it, it will tell us loud and clear that things need correcting.
Dis-ease is the bodies way of informing us that we are lacking in something. This could be; a regular meditation, yoga or exercise practise, or vitamins and minerals that are required, or changing our living environment to better support our lifestyles, or even increasing our water intake. Whatever we need, our bodies inform us that it needs assistance for optimum functioning.
Symptoms or signs that we need to care further for our bodies can show themselves in a variety of ways. Frequent headaches, mood disorders, sluggishness/fatigue, addictive behaviours, poor familial relations are all areas where the body could be trying to communicate that something needs to shift within you.
Starting to listen to your body is the best way to help make those shifts into what is right for you, be it foods, company you keep, what you listen to or watch, what you drink and how you make time for yourself simply to be. A simple tip I would like to share regarding starting to tune into your body is this. I started using this tip as a 'Truth Test' for the most simplest things and now find that even big decisions can be made effectively without stress or confusion by using this.
To 'Truth Test', sit or stand up right and just tune into being present. Use your breath as a focal point if needed, or focus on the position your body is in, really take note of this moment and be with it. When ready, you say to yourself (out loud or in silence - it's up to you) 'Truth, body my name is ....' and say your name, notice that your body may sway forward slightly or remain firm in it's upright position. Then try 'Truth, body my name is Bob' (or whatever false name comes to mind!) and notice the sway backwards. This is your Truth Test - your body will lean into something that rings true or move away if it doesn't. This can be practised over and over again in your daily time - try playing with it, asking the body 'Truth, body I need a smoothie/wine" and see what the results are. It's such fun and really helps you get to grips with your inner knowing, your intuition.
From here, once you start paying attention to what your body needs, it will always guide you to making the right choice for you bringing you into balance one Truth Test at a time!
